Who knows if anything is safe? Recalls of cribs, strollers and some Melissa & Doug Toys

After hearing on the radio today about the recall of over 2 million Stork Craft/Fisher Price cribs in Canada and the U.S., I decided to look and see what else has been recalled lately.

Looking at the recalls always bothers me, because it seems that you can never guess what products will be safe (I guess the definition of "safety" is variable, too!). I love Melissa & Doug products, but it seems that some have unsafe levels of barium. And ALL Maclaren/Kushies single and double strollers have been recalled after 12 fingertip amputations. Isn't that crazy?!

Keep your eye on the Healthy Canadians website for food and product recalls, and the U.S. Consumer Product and Safety Commission for recalls and product safety news.

I have that shape sorting cube but it seems like it hasn't been recalled in the US. How annoying! I guess I will err on the side of caution and give it up.

Try contacting the company to ask them about a recall in the U.S. The Canadian listing says that people can contact Melissa & Doug to arrange for a replacement.

I just went to order the replacement hardware that I "safely" put away when we last took our crib down. . . only to find that our crib had been recalled! Thankfully our first 2 survived it. Hopefully this one will be safe - how can you know?!

Recalls always make me worry too - the crib and stroller ones were especially worrying for me this time round. It sounds as if Canada may have more stringent safety standards than the US?

I didn't hear about the Melissa & Doug toys. My sister found out that the crib she's had for over 6 years was part of the recall. SCARY!
